Fire Resistant Material for Walls: Fireproof Walls & Plasterboard

My grandfather was always handy around the house. When I was little, he put up some cement board in the bathroom to use as a backing board for new tiling. He bought too much cement board, so he installed the leftovers in the garage behind the bench grinder. I asked him why he did that, and he told me the cement board wouldn’t catch fire from the sparks coming off the grinder. This was back in the 1980s, but the idea of fireproof walls always stuck with me.
